Pat is a sticker artist who recently launched DrawAllOver.com – a website to encourage participation in public sticker art.
What is your name and/or alias(s)?
You can just call me Pat.
Where do you live?
I live in New York’s Basement. A.K.A Long Island.
How long have you been making stickers?
About a year now. I started the DrawAllOver project so that people could get more people to be interested in stickers and i wanted to also bring my art to the people.
What inspired you to first start producing stickers?
I walked around NYC and saw so many stickers placed around and I loved some of the art featured. I just wanted to create a website that featured some of the best projects.
What materials do you use?
Just Sharpie. Nothing fancy.
When there are construction sites around buildings I usually like slapping stickers on those poles, doors, and signs they set up, because I know they will be there for a while. The public can see my work and then it’ll be gone. I’m okay with that.
What is the longest one of your slaps has survived in the wild?
One is stuck on my laptop and its been here for a year, but I won’t count that one since the weather can’t get to it. I honestly don’t know, because I’ll post the stickers anywhere and then I never go back to them. Whatever happens, happens.
Have you ever had any run-ins with the law due to your stickering?
I posted one sticker in Washington DC in one of their subway stations. Can’t remember which one, it might have been metro center, but I got followed by some police. I got away, but that was pretty crazy for me.
What other artists inspire you?
My favorite artist is Dalí. I love his weird style so anything I do it’s just plain strange.
What are some of your favorite foods?
Noodles. Specifically Lo Mein. I’d love some right now!
What kind of music do you like?
Indie, Alternative, Rock music mostly. I love Vampire Weekend and Matt and Kim. Those are my two favorite bands. I do love Hip-Hop as well. Childish Gambino and Frank Ocean have been on repeat for a bit.
Favorite movies / TV shows?
SNL, The Blacklist and Parks and Rec are great. Go NBC I guess? My favorite movie is Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. The original one of course.
Have you ever had a funny/unusual experience related to stickering that you would like to share?
A young girl came up to me and said, “Don’t post that or the police will murder you.” And she just walked away. I slapped the sticker, but I kinda layed low just in case. Haha.
Some artists try to get as many ups as possible. Is stickering about quantity or quality for you?
A little of both. I love consistency, but I’ve definitely been focusing on making the stickers look better before they are posted.
Do you collect and/or trade slaps with other artists?
I don’t but I REALLY need to start. It seems fun!
Do you have a message that you are trying to convey with your slaps?
I just honestly want people to enjoy my artwork. Most of my stickers don’t really mean anything, they honestly just seem cool to me. I like drawing fun and weird things. Whatever people take from it is up to them.
Anything else that you want to add (anything at all):
Make art every single day. People don’t realize how freeing it is sometimes.
What is the best way for people to follow your work?
Just check out DrawAllOver.com if you’d like. It’s going to be VERY active during the new year.
Shout out to my friend cookie for encouraging me to start the project. Im also gonna say thank you to anyone who participates. It’s my favorite thing to see artists get their art out there.
