How long have you been making stickers?
I’ve been hand making graff stickers since 2011.
What inspired you to first start producing stickers?
I was hit up by a dude who wrote Kert a few cities away from me, he had asked me to make him a sticker pack…I had never made a sticker before, but I figured what the hell…I’ll make this guy a pack.
What role do stickers play in art?
Stickers are good for getting a detailed piece of your work up fast. I draw up bombs much more detailed on a sticker than I normally would in the streets with a can. Even though it’s not weather resistant, it’s more colorful and better looking while it lasts. Besides that, it’s a great way to swap art with writers instead of mailing blackbooks back and forth.
I mostly get my hands on blank full page sticker sheets and fill them out with whatever is around. I’ve filled them out with highlighters and pens to Prismacolor and Sharpie.
Favorite place to put up slaps:
Anywhere that stays dry!!! I usually stick em up under ledges that will shield them from rain and snow or inside phone booths for the same reason. But on a summer walk they go up on everything. Just try to keep the more detailed slaps in protected areas.
What is the longest one of your slaps has survived in the wild?
Believe it or not some of my first slaps from 2011 are still up. FADED badly don’t get me wrong, but they are still up! I used to apply tape over all my slaps in a shingle order to act as a laminate but I found if and when the water gets in it stays in and ruins the slap entirely.
Have you ever had any run-ins with the law due to stickering?
NEVER and if I did I would laugh in the cops face and tell them to go arrest the guy taping up yard sale signs!!
What other artists inspire you?
I’m more of a wall masher than a sticker basher, but I approach graff from all angles. I’d say my biggest influences are my crew, GoonSquad. It’s hard to take influence from the bigger writers these days cause they’re all dumbing there shit down to go with the new straight letter trend! I ain’t with that shit. I am constantly trying to put my shit on a wilder level.
Have you ever had an unusual experience stickering?
Nothing really out of the ordinary…I don’t really go out sticker bombing. I just always keep a few on me for day spots I wouldn’t be able to do with out causing some heat.
If you had to guess, how many stickers have you produced to date?
In all seriousness, if I had to guess how many stickers I’ve produced I’d say well over 1000. And that ranges from handstyles on priority mail slaps to full page pieces for the homies blackbooks.
Is stickering about quality or quantity?
For me dropping slaps would be quality over quantity. Like I said I save slaps for spots I can’t get away with at that particular time. So if I’m going to leave a slap instead of some spray…it’s gonna be a good one.
Do you trade with other artists?
Collecting, trading and selling slaps are about the only reason I make slaps now. As time goes by I seem to make less and less and put more focus into painting.
Do you have a message your are trying to convey with your stickers?
No. I’m not trying to put out any messages. Although I try to just slip little comments in once in a while about current events that might make someone laugh.
What do you want someone to take away from seeing one of your designs in the wild?
GERK. To put it simply. Read my name. Remember it. Go home and think of it.
Stickers change my graff here and there because there are certain things I try on sticker designs that I wouldn’t really consider doing which then opens new ideas to my graff.
What is the best way to follow your work?
Shout out to my crew GoonSquad. Char, Craze, Haze, Btrane, Rage, and Sloem,
my CatchingEyes homies out in Cali and my DamageCrew brothers out in Australia!!
